IT'S BEEN SO LONG!

I have no excuses. Okay, maybe working seven days a week so I can have a mediocre job with health insurance(yeah not worth it-you), never sleeping, overworking, over-drinking, under-sleeping and NEVER doing my nails.  Yeah, can you imagine? I got a Masters(finally!), a job at the DOE(fuck..yes), made lots of money(okay thats a lie), my husband is going back to school to finally move forward- and I never did my nails.  It was a rough few months, and then I needed a month to drink sleep it off, then I started working with the girls for 12 hours a day(not to mention my weekend job)/going on crazy interviews for September. Overall, I am not exaggerating when I tell you I have worked like a slave.
Anyway, this blog has been itching and dancing in the back of my head for these past few summer weeks. I've spent them with the two girls I babysit, on several job interviews and job fairs, and of course at NYC karaoke bars and two in the afternoon singing "I wanna dance with somebody". Okay, you didn't need to know that last part.
I want to tell you that this is my I'm-sorry-I-haven't-posted post. Or my I'ma-promise-to-post-my-shitty-nails-now. Or my I'm-sorry-I-never-post-about-nail-polish-and-only-my-two-cats post. But your not stupid, or drunk. Okay scratch that last part, you need to get some help, its about time we talked about this.
Enough with the blog experimenting, the point of this post is to assure you that I will post at least once a day, but probably for the next few weeks I shall post all the pictures of the times that I DID do my nails and took pictures, which was quite often the past few months.
As I am sure all of you lovely ladies and two dudes know, magnetic nail polish is soaring and international and a big hit. Its in every CVS and Walgreens, comes in a variety of brands and I couldn't be happier. But alas, I am not going to blog about magnetic nail polish today, my last five thousand posts six years ago were, so I will give you something FRESH like Jamie Oliver.
Since I am taking a new job in september, I will no longer be working odd babysitting jobs or language lab jobs or teaching jobs, but rather I will have one job, benefits and weekends off. WEEEKENDS OFF means boozey brunch and shakey manicures, which means more posts. But it also means I will no longer be with my two favorite youngsters, the girls I babysit. SO I am letting them do whatever they want (as if you had any discipline with them-their mother). This includes drawing designs on my nails. And I have to say, even though I did the left hand, the 12 year old did a better job (figures.. ugh) than I did. She should start her own blog... at least she'd post every day after working 16 hours.. eep

Okay, This Manicure comes after one of my trips to American Apparel (Ugh I know I have a problem.. why do I support sex crazed hipster maniac companies.. oh  yeah your right) I loved these colors together, Crescent Heights (the green neonish color) and Angeline(this is a favorite amongst many bloggers) but since I was at work I couldn't really use any tools to combine them on my nails/I was lazy whatever don't judge. The girls have these cute nail pens, so we decided to alternate nail colors and draw random "tibetan/aztec" designs. At least thats what I told them they were. HAH kids will believe anything(okay they didn't believe me either).  Enjoy ;0

FINALLY:silver metallic crackle I can adore!

Some of you may have noticed that I have been trying to get myself into the metallic crackles- when they were first released I didn't get excited. The swatches on the internet were cool- but when I tried them in the store I was dissapointed. Gold crackle is easy to pair, blues and reds go great with it and make a great holiday manicure. Pink metallics go really well with pink shades and blue shades, and blue metallic crackle goes great with purples, pinks and blues. The Silver crackle took me forever to figure out however, but I think I finally got it! I need to pair it with dark purples, blues and blacks- and I mean dark for me to really enjoy it. I believe these photos are of the silver over a really dark green- American apparel's Hunter I believe. Although I haven't worn something like this since (its been at least a month) I do like this manicure.

thanksgiving (sort of not really) nails

Like every other meat shoveling gluttonous american, I love thanksgiving. Its a day where I can shamelessly poor pig grease all over my buttery vegetables and claim that I'll start my diet the next day!
I had mozzerella sticks for breakfast, so that diet will have to wait for tomorrow.
We went upstate to my parents friends house, so I had to have fall festive colored nails. I saw some nail art tutorials on refinery29.com and decided against them since my halloween nails took 45 minutes, and I'm lazy. For this particular color combination, I used American Apparel's "summer peach" as a base color and Matesse's new red crackle so cleverly named "red burgundy".
The good thing about this manicure is that it didn't chip until today(like my diet)! Mostly my manicures chip immediately because I'm constantly scrubbing my floors and cleaning dishes. I guess the pig grease was good for something!

American Apparel, Summer peach Mystery

So I have been on an American Apparel polish kick, I love the formula, the colors are amazing, and for the most part they mix well. I have had some trouble when using my latest base coat, which is a silk wrap made by Bucci, I also tried Nailrepair, both forumlas used as base coats caused the American Apparel polish to bubble. When I switched to a .99 cent, garlic thin base coat by Jordana, everything worked out really well.
That being said about the formula, it was my birthday recently and my mom bought me a fifty dollar visa card, so I decided to go look at American Apparels polishes. Although I have the full neon collection, they had FINALLY come out with a neon blue which I had to get. My husband and I walked down from the restaurant and we saw that they were giving away a polish (from a select color array of course) with purchase. Not only that, but American Apparel sells the polishes for 3 for 15$ (individually priced at $6) So I got four polishes for $15, no tax yay.
As you can imagine, I went on the AA website and tracked down swatches of every color to see which ones I wanted, And I bought like sixteen new polishes. My latest attempt was the most interesting. So I wanted this color, Manilla, which wasn't available in any store in NYC for some reason, probably because they were recalled, or discontinued (each store told me a different story, or didn't know). The one store in Tribecca DID have it, so I went down, after having asked if they were doing the promotion. They said they did (but didn't).
When I got there I picked out the manilla, and summer peach, another color I had been eyeing. The manager who had helped me immediately noticed something about this bottle, it had a weird style number and it was a slightly different color than the other bottles of Summer peach. As you can see by the photos, they are completely different and, well I thought it was so cool that I overlooked the fact I couldn't get a free polish and I bought the two different tones plus the manilla Polish.
The photos of the mani are of the weird summer peach, which has a more yellow tone to it. It is sort of like Butter by American Apparel, but SOO much better.

China Glaze Crackle: Crushed Candy Blue

I really love Crackle, in case you didn't know. I got all six of these on Amazon some time back- I put on American Apparel Neon Red and Crushed candy over it, really bright, amazing mani. I also Included some photos w/ Lighting Bolt (China Glaze's White Crackle). A girl stopped me at my job wearing the white and told me that OPI's white Shatter was terrible. I have heard mixed reviews BUT the China Glaze crackle rocks. As you can see, but of course, I get hundreds of chips after just one day. :(

American apparel limited edition:neon green

Alright so for the last few weeks i've been workin like a slave and studying like a fool(ha we all know my ass doesn't study.. unless you call drinking bud light lime as practicing spanish..). Today I had my final exam for my masters program this morning(thats right, I'm one step closers to putting "masters" under her achievements, along with largest nail polish collection, and the Guinness world records of hangovers) so I decided I would head over to American Apparel and buy three of the limited edition Neon colors. According to refinery29.com, they only shipped out like 2000 bottles or something, so I got overly excited. I bought Neon Green, Neon Red and Neon purple. Today I tried Neon green, and its awesome.
At first I put a base of white because the girl at the counter told me it would help to brighten up the color. Well the damn color blinded me temporarily, so I had to bathe myself in polish remover so I could regain sight. After I put on the green over a clear base and I must say its still bright, but awesome. In fact, its almost a tad bit sheer, unlike the other American apparel colors, where you'll only need one color. It kindof reminded me of OPI's texas sorbet finish, but these have a matte finish... if that made any sense. (I know it didn't)
Here are some photos of my nails, put on some shades cuz the bright ones have the white underneath, and the neat ones are from when i was sober without a white base.

American Apparel Shade Review: Hunter and Rouge

How many times must I tell you that American Apparel did me a great favor Injustice by creating a huge variety of great colors that go on opaque, are three free and also have deals on. Here are some pre-clean up (do I ever clean up my nails?) Photos of Hunter, a great shade because it never looks black, but rather a beautiful dark green, and rouge, a lovely rose color.
These colors do peel easily, but then again I have to let you all know that I only put one coat of base, two of color and one of top-coat acrylic. Which for nails that go through significant daily house-cleaning, chores, and running around NYC, may not be quite enough. As a rule I find If I put more coats on of base and top, my Mani lasts longer but takes a significantly longer time to dry.

Hipsterpolish- Office!

So American Apparel has really won my heart with their polish. They have tons of unique colors and some pretty damn good staple colors- colors that I think any woman should own. One of these staples I wore yesterday- Downtown LA, a bright deep red, in honor of the oscars. Today I chose office, a light green creme color. No inspiration, but Lady Gagas video did premere today and I do think of creme nail polish and gaga because of her bad romance manicure. Anyway, here are a few pre clean up shots. I'll do another Mani after class tonight! or maybe i'll put designs on top. hmmmm decisions decisions

Oh, you might notice that I my ring finger on my left hand is considerably shorter. Thats because I had too much Oscar fun last night and tore it straight off.

Hipster nail polish

call me out of touch with my new york hipster side ( since I fled bushwick I can't even look at girls with bangs without gagging, so don't even) but I didn't know until yesterday that American Apparel sells nail polish in all of their trendy and concentrated colors that they offer their clothes in! I love all the colors, so I ran out and bought six. If you buy three in the store they are $15, and they retail for $6 a piece. If you buy seven online they are $32, but you have to think about shipping also, so I decided to just go to a store and get six for $30. I bought Hunter, a dark green that I have seen many swatches online of and it doesn't look almost black, which is awesome. I bought downtown LA because believe it or not I don't have any classic reds ( and I'm wearing it tonight for the oscars!) I also bought Malibu green, Rouge, Office and L'Esprit, because the cremes are awesome and the the other two, Malibu & rouge are unique colors in my opinion. They are 3-free, come in a cool container, and I can't wait to buy the whole line. I'm just scared my husband will leave me if I go that far ;)
